Unused prescription and over-the-counter medications that
remain in the home can cause serious harm to people if they are taken accidentally, intentionally misused or inappropriately given to someone else. Sometimes old or unused prescriptions are flushed down the toilet. Unfortunately, this method ends up polluting our waters, impacting aquatic species, and contaminating our food and water supplies. And simply throwing them away doesn’t insure safe disposal. Landfills are meant to handle common household waste and medications are deemed chemical waste—bad for people and the environment.
There is a permanent drop box option for medications through the law enforcement agencies.  The Albany county medication drop box is located at New York State Police Troop G, located at 760 Troy Schenectady Road, Latham.
National Prescription Drug Take-Back day is April 29th, 2017.
The drop off sites have not yet been made pubic. Further information will be available after April 1st. NNORC staff will share the information at our April programs or bookmark this page. We will post locations.
