Come and See Bridge of Spies
Bridge of Spies is a 2015 historical drama legal thriller film directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg, co-produced by Marc E. Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger. The film stars Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Amy Ryan, and Alan Alda. Based on the 1960 U-2 incident during the Cold War, the film tells the story of lawyer James B. Donovan, who is entrusted with negotiating the release of Francis Gary Powers—a pilot whose U-2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union—in exchange for Rudolf Abel, a captive and convicted Soviet KGB spy, whom he represented at trial. The name of the film refers to the Glienicke Bridge, which connects Potsdam with Berlin, where the spy exchange took place.
Join us on Thursday, September 29 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Sophia’s (440 Whitehall Rd, Albany) for the movie, followed by dinner. We’re bringing in food from Sam’s. Choose eggplant parmesan or chicken parmesan.  The cost is $12 for members and $14 for non-members. RSVP with NNORC at 514-2023.

Family relationships are always challenging, and they evolve over time. This month’s Food and Flicks features The Judge, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Oscar nominee for best supporting actor, Robert Duvall, explores the relationship of a father and son—their estrangement and reconnection. Hank Palmer (Downey) is a big city lawyer who returns home when his father (Duvall), a local judge, is accused of murder. Hank’s help is not always welcomed by his dad. In the course of the investigation and trial, Hank reconnects on a profound level with his family. This is a superbly acted story that resonates with many of us.
Hope you can join us!
