Come and watch the Oscar-nominated film: The Post. Katharine Graham (played by Meryl Streep) is the first female publisher of a major American newspaper—The Washington Post. With help from editor Ben Bradlee (played by Tom Hanks), Graham races to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spans three decades and four U.S. presidents. Together, they must overcome their differences as they risk their careers—and very freedom—to help bring long-buried truths to light. The Post was directed by Steven Spielberg.

Following a delicious lunch from Sam’s, our first Food and Flicks program of 2016 will feature the wonderful movie, Mr. Holmes. This movie is an interesting spin on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most celebrated detective, Sherlock Holmes, played by the incomparable Sir Ian McKellen. A now-retired Holmes, his steel-trap mind fading with his advancing age, lives out his golden years in the late 1940s. He returns from a trip to Japan, where he witnessed first-hand the result of America’s bombing of Hiroshima. He lives with his devoted housekeeper Mrs. Murno, played by Laura Linney, and her son Roger, who turns out to be of great help when the detective reopens his investigation into the case that led to his retirement.

Join us  for lunch at  followed by the American comedy drama The Hundred Foot Journey. The film stars Helen Mirren, Om Puri, Manish Dayal and Charlotte Le Bon and tells the story of a feud between two adjacent restaurants (100 feet apart)—one operated by an Indian family who was recently exiled from Mumbai and the other managed by a Michelin-starred French chef (Mirren). This is a stimulating story about triumph over exile and a collision with marjoram and madras that ends in a magical, culinary delight. The film was produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey for DreamWorks Pictures.
