JFS Annual Celebration to Honor Jean Becker & David Alan Miller on October 28, 2018

On October 28, 2018, JFS will honor David Alan Miller and Jean Becker for their of commitment to inspiring and helping people in the Capital Region
JFS demonstrates and embraces the Jewish value of tikkun olam—repairing the world—in all our community based work. Our Annual Celebration will recognize the commitment of our honorees to serve humanity with humility and to act as role models for future generations. They will be presented the Anschel Weiss Community Builders Award. Past recipients of this award include Amy Klein, Fred Erlich, Mara Ginsberg, Chanie Simon, Rabbi Beverly Magidson, The Golub Family, Jerry & Ilene Sykes, Michael Castellana, Steve Lobel, Morris and Esther Massry, Dr. Mark Sullivan and Representative Michael McNulty.
Grammy Award-winning conductor David Alan Miller has established a reputation as one of the leading American conductors of his generation. Music Director of the Albany Symphony since 1992, David has proven himself a creative and compelling orchestra builder. Through exploration of unusual repertoire, educational programming, community outreach and recording initiatives, he has reaffirmed the Albany Symphony’s reputation as the nation’s leading champion of American symphonic music and one of its most innovative orchestras.
Jean Becker is a member of Congregation Beth Israel in Schenectady.  For 40 years, Jean taught grades 1 through 8 at several Hebrew Day Schools. She has a long history of community and volunteer activities including: past Board Member of the Jewish Federation of Northeast New York; Captain for the American Cancer Society; Treasurer of Hadassah in Colonie; Sisterhood Board at Congregation Beth Israel; Program Chair at Brandeis University Women; and many more. Currently, Jean is active in Hadassah and Chair of the United Jewish Federation’s Women’s Division campaign.  She and her husband Martin are long-term supporters of Jeremy’s circle in honor of their son-in-law, Jeremy Coleman, who died of cancer in 2008.
